If you have elementary-aged children, you know about Minecraft. Okay, that's not true at all. I know nothing about Minecraft, but many of my kids' friends do. And this birthday cake was for one of them.
What You Need:
Square Cake (This is two layers of 8" square)
Chocolate Ganache Icing (2 cups)
Buttercream Icing (1-2 cups) - colored dark green
Make the Ganache
Combine 1 cup of heated heavy cream and 1 cup chocolate chips. Allow to cool until as thick as thick pudding. (You don't want it to run down the side of the cake. It needs to hold its shape some.)
Cover the Cake
Cover the sides and top with the ganache. You do not have to worry about making it smooth. It's supposed to look like mud.
Then, ball up some foil, and gently press into the side of the iced cake. This creates some texture, and makes it look more like dirt.
Add the "Grass"
Use Tip #233, keep the bag straight up from the cake, and squeeze while pulling up towards the ceiling. Cover the entire top of the cake. (Yes, I know, this is a cupcake. Same technique. Work with me!)
Enjoy!
